Carrie Althouse

Carrie Althouse has been a potter for over 16 years. Before starting Althouse Pottery, she was an art teacher, where her love of teaching art grew for 9 years. Now, Carrie teaches adult wheel throwing classes in Round Hill and also teaches 1 time “try it” classes in her home studio. She sets her students up for success by staying hands on every step of the way. She loves cultivating pieces that have multiple techniques, textures, glazing applications, and processes.

Mostly, her pieces emulate nature but can also have a fun whimsical colorful side, bringing the outdoors inside in a permanent way. She finds her inspiration through her outdoor adventure in her spare time— taking in all the details of the world around her, both natural and man-made.

She and her husband, Mike (a craftsman himself—owner of Skyline Fireplace), live with their daughters in beautiful Berryville, VA. She and Mike built a modernly rustic pottery studio/gallery right on their property. Twice a year, they run live Raku pottery firings for the public, where participants are able to glaze a hand thrown piece made by Carrie and watch it change colors through the firing process—ready to take home in only 2 hours.
